CT (Computed Tomography)

Computed Tomography (CT), more commonly known as a CT or CAT scan, uses multi-detector scanners to produce cross-sectional images of the body. At Condell, CT scans of the body, including lung screenings and cardiac calcium scans, are offered, as well as neuroradiology and orthopedic scans. In addition, CT angiography of the abdomen, chest, brain and extremities are available.

Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday, 7 am to 11 pm
Saturdays, 7 am to 3 pm

Scheduling an Appointment:
To schedule an appointment, call Central Scheduling at (847) 990-5000.
A physician's order is required, except for the cardiac calcium scan, which requires you to provide only the name of your family physician. Important! If you have any allergies, you should let the Central Scheduling know prior to coming to the hospital.

When You Arrive:
After registering, you may be asked to change into a patient gown. You may be given something to drink, as well as an injection, which will help us visualize your internal organs. Most exams take approximately 30 minutes.

During the Exam:
You will be asked to lie on a special table and safety straps may be applied. The table will move as the exam progresses. You may be asked to hold your breath for short periods as images are taken. You will hear some noise from the machine as the exam progresses.

After the Exam:
When the exam is finished, the technologist will assist you off the table. You may be asked to drink plenty of fluids to help your body eliminate the medication used to see your internal organs. The images from your exam will be interpreted by a radiologist and a typed report will be sent to your physician within 3-5 days from the time you were examined.

For further information, please contact the CT Department at (847) 990-5618.
