General Radiology

General radiology services encompass a comprehensive list of diagnostic procedures, including skeletal, abdominal, chest, genitourinary (GU), and gastrointestinal (GI) diagnostic testing.

Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday, 7 am to 11 pm
Saturdays, 7 am to 3 pm


To Schedule an Appointment:
Although not all exams require an appointment, call Central Scheduling at (847) 990-5000. A physician's order is required, except for screening mammography, which requires you to provide only the name of your family physician. Important! If you have any allergies, you should let the Central Scheduling know prior to coming to the hospital.


When You Arrive:
After registering and depending on the exam, you may be asked to change into a patient gown. For some procedures, you may be given something to drink, as well as an injection, which will help us visualize your internal organs better. Most exams take approximately 30 minutes.


During the Exam:
You may be asked to lie on a special table or the x-rays may be taken standing up. You may be asked to hold your breath for short periods as x-rays are taken. You may hear some noise from the machine as the exam progresses.


After the Exam:
When the exam is finished, the technologist will assist you off the table. You may be asked to drink plenty of fluids to help your body eliminate the medication used to see your internal organs. The images will be interpreted by a radiologist and a typed report will be sent to your physician within 3-5 days from the time you were examined.
