MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or more commonly known as MRI, uses magnetic fields to obtain images of the brain and internal organs. At Condell, MRI of the body, brain, spine, and musculoskeletal system is offered, including perfusion and diffusion and spectroscopy. Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA), used to evaluate blood vessels and blood flow, is also available.

Condell's new GE MRI, using state-of-the-art EXCITE™ technology, produces faster scan times, faster image processing and improved image quality. This technology uses pulsed radio frequencies and magnets to create images for screening and diagnosis.

Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday, 7 am to 11 pm
Saturday, 7 am to 3 pm

Scheduling an Appointment:
To schedule an appointment, call Central Scheduling at (847) 990-5000. A physician's order is required.

When You Arrive:
After registering, you may be asked to change into a patient gown. You will be asked to remove all metal objects prior to the exam. You may receive an injection to help visualize your internal organs. Most exams take approximately 45 minutes.

During the Exam:
You will be asked to lie on a special table and safety straps and or imaging coils may be applied. The table will move through the machine as the exam progresses. You will hear some knocking and buzzing from the machine as the exam progresses. You will be offered earplugs to minimize the noise. The technologist will be able to see and hear you at all times and will be in communication with you at all times throughout the scan.

After the Exam:
When the exam is finished, the technologist will assist you off the table. You should feel no discomfort or side effects from the testing. The images will be interpreted by a radiologist and a typed report will be sent to your physician within 3-5 days from the time you were examined.
