Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy focuses on making adaptations as needed and restoring independence in day-to-day living. Areas addressed in therapy include: upper extremity function and activities of daily living such as dressing, grooming and bathing, meal preparation, work skills and household tasks.

Occupational therapists are graduates of an accredited college program receiving a Bachelor or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy. All occupational therapists are required by the state of Illinois to take and pass a registration exam, which enables them to be licensed and to practice.

Occupational therapists are trained to evaluate and treat a variety of disorders such as strokes Parkinson's disease and upper extremity musculoskeletal injuries. Specially trained and certified Hand Therapists work with clients who have hand and finger tendon injuries, fractures, burns and joint replacements.
