Condell Medical Center Echocardiography Lab Earns Accreditation for High Standards

LIBERTYVILLE, IL—Condell Medical Center's Echocardiography Laboratory has recently received accreditation for maintaining top standards for patient care from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories.

The Echocardiography Laboratory, located at the main hospital, 801 S. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, conducts complex imaging to monitor the structure and function of a patient’s heart. The lab performs stress testing while patients are exercising, and echocardiography testing while patients are at rest. Both tests have become standard diagnostic tools in detecting and treating many types of heart disease. However, accurate diagnoses depend on the interpretive and technical skills of echocardiography technicians and physicians.

The accreditation means that Condell Medical Center's Echocardiography Laboratory meets the high standards of the commission's sponsoring organizations: the American College of Cardiology, American Society of Echocardiography and Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The laboratory conducts more than 8,400 pediatric and adult echograms annually and earned accreditation in the areas of adult transthoracic and adult stress echocardiography.

“This accreditation is voluntary, not required, but we sought it because we wanted confirmation from our peers that we offer the best practices of care in our specialty,” said Isaac Thomas, MD, FACC, FASE, board-certified cardiologist and medical director of non-invasive cardiology.
