Condell Medical Center Opens Lake County's First Pediatric Emergency Department

Libertyville, IL --Few things are as stressful as taking your child to the emergency room. Until now, Lake County hospitals have not offered specialized care for children in a designated pediatric emergency department setting.

As of July 7, 2008, Condell Medical Center has opened Lake County’s first Pediatric Emergency Department. Board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians and specially trained nurses have joined the Condell emergency team to treat all conditions--from minor illnesses to major traumas--in newborns through teens.

Condell’s Pediatric Emergency Department is under the direction of Charles Nozicka, DO, FAAP, FAAEM, board-certified in emergency medicine and pediatrics. He is a Lake County resident and father. Dr. Nozicka has developed several hospital pediatric emergency departments in the Chicagoland area. He is a Fellow with the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Emergency Medicine and was awarded the Ron W. Lee Award for Pediatric Clinical Excellence, given by the Illinois Department of Public Health. He is joined at Condell by board-certified physicians from the University of Chicago specializing in pediatric emergency medicine.

"Parents can have peace of mind because they know that their children are being taken care of by physicians who have the highest level of training and experience to treat pediatric emergencies," Dr. Nozicka says.
The State of Illinois has already recognized Condell Medical Center for providing the highest possible level of emergency care for children in a more child-friendly environment through their Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) certification. This certification means that the staff is specially prepared to care for sick and injured children.
In addition, a newly constructed, specially designed, pediatric emergency department is opening in conjunction with Condell’s $23.5 million expansion of its entire emergency department, scheduled for completion in spring of 2009.
